Jean-Philippe BillmannJean-Philippe Billmann is a choral conductor and singer who has a background in contemporary dance. Combining the expressive movements of a dancer with the seamless flow of gestures of a conductor, Billmann creates powerful and inspiring musical performances.
Billmann obtained his Advanced Diploma in Conducting from the Hochschule für Musik de Freiburg i. Br., Germany after time spent under the tuition of Hans Michaël Beuerle. Billmann now teachers choral conducting and singing at the Regional Conservatoire of Strasbourg. Well-known in and around Alsace, Jean-Philippe Billmann works regularly with Cadence, an Alsatian choral music-making initiative. Additionally, with a high level of musical and pedagogical talent, Billmann is regularly invited to work as a conductor and teacher with organisations around the rest of France, as well as abroad (England, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Greece). Billmann created the Strasbourg-based Ensemble vocal Filigrane in 2006. From 2010 to 2014, he also directed Ensemble vocal féminin Plurielles and, between 2008 and 2018, Billmann was conductor of l'Ensemble vocal du Luxembourg, which performs regularly with instrumentalists. Under the Billmann's direction, the Luxembourgish choir won First Prize at the European Choral Singing Competition of Luxembourg in 2014. In 2015, Billmann created his own professional vocal ensemble, Exosphère. Exospère has performed with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, with French organist Thierry Escaich, and at the music festivals of Besançon and Rocamadour. Recent projects include Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, and Poulenc's Litanies à la Vierge Noire. |
